Screenprinting in beautiful Siena, Italy...
Dave Fortune has worked at UWE for many years managing the water-based screenprinting department at ‘The School of Creative Arts in Bristol’. In 1989 Dave spent time at the ‘University of Berlin’ researching water-based screenprinting. On returning to the University of the West of England he proceeded to set up and run a completely solvent free screenprinting area. His involvement in the story of water-based ink development and water-based ceramic decal development at UWE, Bristol was invaluable. His enthusiasm during those early days of the changeover from oil-based to water-based inks to his present commitment to disseminating the information to schools, colleges and universities is boundless. He also organises and runs workshops in the UK and internationally. Would your school or college be interested in hosting a screen printing workshop? If yes, please contact Dave for more information or look on 'Sienese Screen Printing Summer Visits' on this website.
His latest project was the renovation (mostly by Charles and Rhoda with many thanks to John Henry) and organising a studio in beautiful Siena. The Studio Giuggiolo is a small studio converted from an old barn complete with a pizza oven. Because of the Covid Pandemic over the last three years, visits (2020 and 2022) were cancelled but 2023 will go ahead, a chance to produce more images and editions and enjoy beautiful Siena again.
